What’s the best antivirus?
Being a home user, free antivirus is an attractive option. Especially with so many good ones. But do you actually get better protection if you pay for it?
If you’re talking strictly antivirus, then typically no. It’s not common practice for companies to give you weaker protection in their free versions. In most cases, the free antivirus protection is just as good as their pay-for version.
But I would argue that the companies who offer only a pay-for version will typically be better than those that offer a free one, simply because it takes a lot of resources to keep up with the changing landscape. And selling antivirus is how they support their research.
Difference between paid and free??
The difference between the free versions of antivirus software and the paid versions are much like the differences between a trial version and a paid version of anything else. Free antivirus software tends to be very basic in its functionality. The program will scan your PC and detect if there is any malware, spyware, or viruses, and then it will delete them. In comparison tests, the free software rated equal to that of the paid software when it came to finding and deleting malware, but, the paid software has extra features such as identity theft protection and parental controls.
Examples of both paid & free Software:
Free: Panda, Avast!, AVG
Paid: Eset, Kaspersky, Norton
Either way it’s up to you which you decide to go for, something free is always appealing but at the end of the day when it comes to the likes of identity theft & online banking that could leave you broke if you get caught, I think for the sake of €50 a year for peace of mind is a no brainer.
Here at Bridge PC Repair we recommend Eset Anivirus as we have always found it to be one of the best, there are alternatives such as McAfee and Norton but we found them to have an impact on your machines performance as well as having some annoying pop-ups.
