Ok guys, unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve heard of fibre broadband or at least know that up to three quarters of the country currently have a crap internet speed/service.
Netflix, on demand services like RTE Player and online gaming means that the need for faster internet is becoming a major issue for many.
All of the above can be tricky to do unless you have quality high speed internet. People in cities across the country already have the luxury of high speed internet but now fibre broadband is finally being rolled out to a lot of rural parts of the country over the coming months (about fecking time). There are big advantages to this for both the home and business user.
Everyone in the family can do their own thing online, all at the same time, whether it’s downloading music in minutes or watching catch-up TV; streaming HD or 3D movies in the few minutes it takes to make popcorn; or posting photos and videos to social networking sites in seconds.
Business’ can speed up file and data transfers, collaborate with colleagues and customers on conference or video calls or swap their hardware and expensive software licenses for files, processing power and software from CLOUD COMPUTING (we’ll be hitting on this in another blog). Staff can work as effectively from home as they would in the office and use VOIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol) quite comfortably.
Eircom have the contract of rolling out the fibre network but that doesn’t mean that you have to be an Eircom customer. If your local exchange is enabled, all providers (Vodafone, three, Pure Telecom, Sky, etc.) will be able to offer this service. Best thing is prices should remain the same if not very close to existing packages!
If you’re not sure or need more information, just call us here in the office on 051 560767.
Eircom have an interactive map where you can see the planned roll-out of fibre broadband across the country.
